Explore Georgia In Winter - Day 1 - UAE To Georgia

Updated: Feb 13, 2023

It was December 1st, 2022 and we started our journey from our room in Sharjah.

Murari arrived with his car, and we headed to our first stop in Abu Dhabi at Amritha’s friend Revathi and her husband Adarshettan and their lovely daughter Bhagya’s place to leave the car there. We arrived at their place by around 10 AM. They dropped us off at the Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 1 by 11 AM, and we were on our way to our next destination.

The Wizz Air & Abu Dhabi Airport Experience:

Our flight to Kutaisi was scheduled for 3:30 PM, and the check-in process was a breeze, despite the long queue. Before waiting for the plane at the gate, we had some time to spare, and decided to visit the Al Dhabi Lounge at Terminal 1 of the airport.

The Al Dhabi Lounge at Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 1 is the perfect place to relax and recharge before your next flight. With comfortable seating, delicious food options, and a tranquil atmosphere, this lounge is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the airport. And, if you have a credit card, you can enjoy free entry into the lounge and make the most of your time before your next journey.

As the time approached for our Wizz Air flight, we made our way to the gate and boarded the shuttle bus to the plane when it was time for boarding. We were able to take a few photos before boarding. The flight was full, and the staff were polite and friendly.

The Landing Drama:

The flight was uneventful till the time came for landing at Kutaisi International Airport. Due to windy conditions, the pilot had to make a fly-by and attempt a landing for the second time. It was a scary experience for all of us on the plane, but we made it safely to the ground and everyone cheered. When we stepped out of the plane, on to the tarmac of David the Builder Kutaisi International Airport, we were greeted with cold and windy weather, marking our first experience in Georgia.

David the Builder Kutaisi International Airport:

Kutaisi International Airport is a small airport compared to the Tbilisi Airport, the capital of Georgia. There was not much rush, and the immigration process was smooth, with the exception of a question about the amount of cash Murari was carrying. We quickly collected our luggage and were greeted by our guide, Vaso from High Travels, who was waiting outside with a placard with Murari's name.

Getting Connected:

Our first priority was getting a Georgian sim card, and there were many shops outside the terminal providing this service. We purchased two Magti sim cards with 7 days validity and unlimited data for a reasonable price of 78 GEL (approximately AED 113). There was also a coupon included with discounts at different restaurants and attractions, which we didn't end up using.

Exchanging Currency:

We decided not to exchange our money at the airport, as the rates tend to be lower there. Instead, we opted to do it later in the city, where we would get a better exchange rate.

The Road to Tbilisi:

Our hotel was in Tbilisi, which was a 4-hour drive away. We stopped at a McDonalds on the way for dinner and then continued our journey. With the Christmas season in full swing, decorations were everywhere, and we were too tired to admire the sights.

We slept in the car and arrived at the Best Western Tbilisi Art Hotel by 1:00 AM. We checked into our rooms, which were on the rooftop with a balcony and an amazing view of the city.

The High Travels Experience:

High Travels was the tour company we booked our trip with and we couldn't be happier with the service they provided. They were extremely flexible and accommodated all of our requests, ensuring that our trip was tailored to our needs. The team was professional and friendly, always putting our comfort first. Our itinerary was for 4-day, 4-night for 3 people.

As per their itinerary it Includes:

  • Private airport transfers

  • Private tours for everyday

  • Driver guide and comfortable vehicle

  • 4-Star Hotel Accommodation

  • Daily Breakfast at the Hotel

  • Travel Insurance

Excludes:

  • Entrance Tickets in Museums, and Activities

And that concludes our exciting day 1 of our international trip to Georgia. After a long and adventurous day, we finally made it to our hotel in Tbilisi, where we enjoyed a cozy roof-top room with a beautiful view of the city. With our bags unpacked and our eyes closed, we drifted off to sleep, dreaming of all the amazing things we would explore in Tbilisi on the next day. With so much excitement ahead of us, it's impossible to contain our joy. Our journey has just begun and there is so much more to come.
